Shadows of Tintern 2024

Mark Anderson, working with Liam Walsh who took on lighting design, and the projection artist Ulf Pedersen together created a spectacular site-specific journey through sound, light and fire installations within the grounds and ruins of the historic Cadw site of Tintern Abbey. Collaborating again with the Welsh language poet Grug Muse, whose poetry, inspired by the site and it’s history, echoed across the ancient stone work, both projected and through bespoke multi speaker sound systems. Ali Sparrow creatively opperated the three installtions in the Nave, producing a memorable and thought provoking sonic ensemble at the heart of the show.

The show was commissioned by Wye Valley River Festival and the artists worked closely with Artistic Director Phil Haynes. They were also joined by James Doyle from Citrus Arts and three young exceptional Citrus arts workers, Millie, Lucie, and Matilda, who worked throughout the build and show days becoming an integral part of the team.

The show attracted a large and enthusiastic audience, bringing in people from Bristol and further and whose feedback was fantastic.
